Doris Lee Paxton
June 23, 1931 ~ January 26, 2021
Our community lost the vibrant and loving Doris Lee Hall Paxton, age 89, of Palestine, Texas. She was received into her heavenly home on Tuesday, the 26th day of January 2021.
Doris Lee Hall Paxton, a 6th generation Texan and a descendant of Jamestowne Settlers, was born on the 23rd day of June 1931 in Fort Worth, Texas to Allon Killough Hall and Ruth Augusta McRae Hall. She started high school at Sunset High School in Dallas. She graduated from Royse City High School before entering The University of Texas.
She worked full time while at the University of Texas where she majored in Sociology. She lived in the Littlefield Dormitory and was a member of Alpha Lambda Delta, an honorary scholastic fraternity for freshmen women. Doris belonged to the Mortar Board, Orange Jackets, Upperclass Advisor, Bluebonnet Belle, International Council, Forum Speakers Committee, Cap and Gown, and was a Sweetheart Finalist.
After graduation, she worked as a Representative for the American Cancer Society. In Dallas, on August 14, 1954, Doris married the love of her life, James Robert "Jim Bob" Paxton of Palestine, Texas. They lived in Palestine, where they raised 6 daughters.
Doris Paxton is preceded in death by her parents, Allon and Ruth Hall, her husband of 55 years, Jim Bob Paxton, her daughter, Ruth Hall Paxton, her sisters, Helen Ruth Hall Foster, Mary Louise Hall Nugent, Margaret Augusta Hall Miller (Luke), and her brother, Dr. Allon Killough Hall, Jr.
She is survived by her daughters, Mary McRae Paxton, Martha Ellen Paxton, Jane Stratton Paxton, Sarah Elizabeth Paxton, and Rebecca Lee Paxton-Lail (Charles). She has 9 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Doris, like her sister, Helen, never met a stranger, just a new friend. She wanted to be remembered for having a good sense of humor. She loved to laugh and share funny jokes, stories, and comic strips.
She had a forty-year career in real estate in Palestine, Texas. She enjoyed matching buyers and sellers and helping people buy a home for the first time. Doris loved to dance with her sweetheart and enjoyed travel. She was an avid reader and a member of book clubs in Palestine and Dallas at the Highland Springs Retirement Community where she lived for over 8 years. She enjoyed competitive duplicate bridge games at Highland Springs and dining with new people each evening.
Doris loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. A highlight of her life are the years she and Jim Bob spent being a part of Lay Witness Missions in the Methodist Church where people shared stories about how Jesus was working in their lives with transparency and openness.
Doris loved her family and friends and looked on the positive side of life. Romans 8:28 "And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose."
A graveside service to celebrate Doris Paxton's life is to be conducted at two o'clock in the afternoon on Friday, the 29th day of January 2021 at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Elkhart, Texas. Pastors David and Judy Watts will officiate.
Funeral services for Doris Lee Hall Paxton are in care of Rhone Funeral Home, 3900 S. State Highway 19, Palestine, Texas.

Dear Paxton Family,
I am so sorry that you have lost your loving mother and a dear friend to so many acquaintances over the years. For many years I enjoyed her friendship in First United Methodist, Palestine and missed her when she moved.
May God comfort you during this time of transition.
In Christian Love.

Doris was one of the finest women I’ve ever met. She helped us find a home when we first came to Palestine. We joined the Church where Her and Jim Bob went to. She was a great example of Christ Love for us. She is in the Arms of Jesus now… foreverÂÂ
Martha,
I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I know you loved your mother dearly. I pray for peace and comfort for you. I deleted Facebook so I just learned today. May God bless you.
Your friend,
Bobbette
My heart goes out to the entire Paxton family. Her celebration of life is filled with fond memories. We mourn, but not as those without hope…
Doris was my real estate agent when i first moved to Palestine in1999. What a wonderful lady she was. Not only did she
help me find the right home but helped me to integrate to the community. I so admired and respected her. My thoughts
and sincere condolences are with her family

Dear Paxton daughters and grandchildren,
We were all so blessed to have Doris in our lives. She is the last of the famous Hall sisters. Hard to imagine they are all gone now. Last night, we looked at a videoclip of the Hall sisters during one of their regular get-togethers; and Doris was the most energetic, most active, and most talkative. We were so happy to see her just 10 months ago at Peg’s Memorial. Doris was such a joy to be around. May God comfort all of you, and may she rest in eternal peace. Love, Luke and Cindy
Doris was so good to me many years ago when I first gave my life to the Lord. Her patience and kindness will always be remembered. God bless her girls & grandchildren with much comfort. Belle B Todd
Doris was a wonderful person who blessed all our lives. Prayers for her family. Pace McDonald, Georgetown, TX
My Mother-in-law was a genuinely kind soul, but also adventurous, curious, feisty, and self-reliant. It’s hard to believe she left this world. May she find serenity, and live on in our hearts.
