Cremation Does Not Change What They Earned
A veteran’s benefits are earned through service, not through the way they are laid to rest. When a family chooses cremation, those benefits generally carry over. That includes military funeral honors, the burial flag, a government headstone or marker, and inurnment or burial in a national cemetery. Final eligibility is always determined by the VA, and we will help your family confirm exactly what applies.
If cost is what is driving the decision, we want you to know that too. Our direct cremation starts at $3,200, and many veteran benefits come at no cost to eligible families. For veterans in need, we arrange national cemetery burial at no charge.
A Place in a National Cemetery
National cemeteries accept cremated remains. Depending on the cemetery, an urn may be inurned in a columbarium niche or buried in a gravesite, with the same dignity and perpetual care given to any veteran laid to rest there. Eligible spouses and certain dependents may be placed alongside the veteran.
We coordinate and schedule the national cemetery arrangements, including transporting your loved one there. Your family does not have to make the calls or manage the timing. We have done this many times, and we will handle it.
Military Honors With Cremation
Every eligible veteran is entitled to military funeral honors, and we request them on your behalf. Honors can include the folding and presentation of the United States flag and the playing of Taps. With cremation, you have real flexibility in when and where they happen: at a service before the cremation, at the columbarium or graveside, or at a memorial held weeks later when the whole family can gather.
We also work with the Patriot Guard Riders, who stand and ride in honor of veterans at services and processions.
The Burial Flag and the Marker
A United States burial flag is provided for an eligible veteran whether they are buried or cremated, and it may accompany the urn during the service. Afterward it is presented to the family, and for many it becomes a treasured keepsake passed down through generations. We help your family obtain it.
An eligible veteran may also receive a government headstone or marker at no cost, including a marker for a columbarium niche or an urn gravesite. Your Cremation Options
We arrange cremation through a licensed local crematory partner, and our staff includes a certified crematory operator. You can choose the path that fits your family:
- Direct cremation. The simplest option, starting at $3,200, with the cremated remains returned to your family. Honors and a memorial can still follow whenever you are ready.
- A service first, then cremation. Hold a traditional funeral or a visitation in our Main Chapel, which seats about 240, with the cremation afterward.
- A memorial after the cremation. Gather on a date that lets distant family and fellow veterans travel, with the urn and the flag present.
- Witnessed and family-led cremation. Your family may be present as the cremation begins, and a family member may start the process. We ask for about 48 hours notice so we can prepare.
We livestream services to Facebook so that family, friends, and those your loved one served with can take part from anywhere, with a recording available afterward.
We Handle the Paperwork
Most veteran benefits require the DD-214 discharge document. If you cannot find it, we can retrieve it for you. From there, we complete the VA applications with your family in-house and coordinate with the VA and the cemetery. We do not hand you a phone number and send you off to navigate the system alone.
