Homer Clark Woody, age 85, of Palestine, Texas, was called home to live with his loving Lord and Savior on Monday, the 23rd day of January 2023. Mr. Woody was born on the 1st day of June 1937, in Palestine, Texas, to parents Fred T. Woody and Lorine Morrow Woody.
Mr. Woody grew up in Palestine, Texas and attended Alamo, Rusk, the old Reagan Jr. High School, and the old Palestine High School. His patriotism was vibrant; he loved this country and served in the United States Army from August 1955 to August 1958 before becoming a disabled Veteran.
Upon returning home from his time in the service, Mr. Woody worked at Palestine Telephone Company where he met the love of his life Della Sue Tillman and married in 1959. Mr. Woody had one son he loved dearly, Randy Woody. He also worked at Winzen International, launching high altitude research balloons in Palestine, Texas. At the age of 55 he retired from National Center for Atmospheric Research and bought a farm four miles North of Palestine. The farm became a gathering place for his family.
Mr. Woody attended Grace Methodist Church, Brushy Creek United Methodist Church, Mt. Vernon United Methodist Church, and Westwood United Methodist Church throughout his life. He dedicated his heart to the Lord many years ago. He was an all-around great guy with a quick wit and a humorous personality. His family, grandchild, and great grandchildren were his world. Mr. Woody was genuinely loved by many people and will be greatly missed.
He joins in Heaven his son, Randy Woody, parents Fred T. Woody and Lorine Morrow Woody, and his brother Joe Mac Woody.
Mr. Woody is survived by his precious wife of 64 years, Sue Tillman Woody; sister, Freddie Herrington; grandson, Thomas Woody and wife Kaysie; great grandchildren, Halle Woody and Levi Woody, along with a host friends.

Mr. Woody and his lovely wife were good friends of MCMullen Tax Service. I appreciated his service to our country and his steadfast care he provided to his wife these last several years. This saddens us deeply and we were shocked to read this obituary. Good man.

I was privileged to work with Homer at the National Scientific Balloon Facility from 1983 until his retirement and always found him to be honest, competent and dedicated to his work. He was an asset to the facility and to his fellow workers.
We both have known Homer for many years. A wonderful person who cared so much for his family, friends and country. We will miss him. John and Janice Estes

Benny and I are sad hearing of Homer’s passing. He was so devoted to his family and sad to think of how Sue is now without her champion. We loved them both!
We will miss you Homer,, Especially our visits at Dennys. Thanks for your service, You will always be remembered,
May God bless the family of Homer Woody. He was a very nice man and treated me fantastic.
In 1981, on the day that I interviewed at the National Scientific Balloon Facility, Homer was the first to greet me and said to me, “If I can do this job, so can you”. I thought that was a very wonderful way for a person of his character to comfort a new employee. What a guy.

Gary and I enjoyed getting to know Homer and Sue while pastoring at Westwood Methodist. Homer was always willing to lend a helping hand when needed and willing to support all special offerings taken. He was a good man and took good care of Sue. My love and prayers go out to the family and dear friends.
Homer not only loved his family and friends, but he loved his church, Westwood Methodist. There was hardly anything that he couldn’t do to help around the property, or to guide important decisions about church business and opportunities. I would imagine that he was that type of church member in the other churches he was a member of. He especially took good care of Sue as long as he could. His love for others will last for eternity. Meg Taylor, former pastor.
Homer was one of a kind. I worked with him for over 20 years at the National Scientific Balloon Facility. I had lunch with him at the Catfish King in Jacksonville late last year. He was full of life and he will be sorely missed. Prayers for his family. ðŸ™ðŸ™ðŸ™ðŸ™
So sorry for your loss.
I am so sorry for the loss of a great friend of many years. Glad we got to visit a few weeks ago. It added to our many memories and a lot of miles we travelled together. See you later, Homer.
Sue, I just saw this as I was sending a birthday wish to Homer. I am so very sorry for your loss. Homer, like his sweet mother, was just a special person. I was blessed to call him a friend for so many years. Sending you love, hugs, and prayers. Nancy
