Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Bert was such a gentle man, as evidenced with his working with students at Elkhart High. His smile was contagious. Adele and I send our love to Helen and the family.

  2. It doesn’t seem possible that he is really gone. He was such a good man and we will miss his smile and friendship. Our prayers are with all of you and that God will comfort Helen in the days ahead. Your memories are a gift that lasts forever.

  3. I, along many others I grew up with as a teenager were lucky to have had such great teachers/mentors with Bert and Helen. The sweetest, generous, giving, understanding, and loving couple you could have ever been lucky to have in your life. Bert was big and burly and some did not know how to take him at first but once you got to know the Love of GOD he loved to share with us it became evident that GOD put him in our lives for a reason. Even after years of not seeing or visiting and running into him at church he never forgot who you were and always greeted with a hug. Will truly be missed!!

  4. I’m so sorry to hear of Beet’s passing. He was a good friend and neighbor for many years.

  5. I’ve known the Neugebauers since I was just a little kid, but my favorite memory of Bert is during our Sacred Heart Youth Group days when he remembered a story I told of my dad saving the little pancake drops for me and Bert then always made special silver-dollar pancakes just for me at the youth group retreats. He was such a wonderful example of a kind, strong, and faithful man in our young lives and we’re all better adults now because of him. I will also never be able to think of him without picturing his huge, warm smile.

  6. Helen I am so very sorry for your loss. I have so many fond memories of you and Bert both from Sacred Heart and the sorority years. God bless you!

  7. Helen, we are so sorry to hear of Bert’s passing. We’re praying for you, and, your family in the tough days ahead. The Lord will comfort and give you and your family peace and love and we send ours as well. God Bless all of you.

  8. My dear friends, what a great loss for our community! Bert was definitely’one of the good ones’! His kindness and generosity shined throughout Elkhart- he took my MIL a box of Elkhart AG fruit each Christmas for many years- she thought he hung the moon! Bert’s famous cookies and his love for the kids was known to everyone – he will be greatly missed. One of my fondest memories of Bert was from many many years ago- Frank was playing bball… there was a woman referee… Bert didn’t like one of her calls and his voice, booming, yelled out ‘Get back in the kitchen’ !! Gasps and laughter erupted!! To everyone’s surprise, he got to stay in the gym! Lol I tell this story usually every bball season!!
Praying for comfort and strength during this difficult time- hugs, Dru

  9. Helen and family, please know that you are all in my thoughts and prayers during this most difficult time and in the days ahead. I have so many wonderful memories of when we were all kids and growing up in the Valley. Precious memories to keep fovever and to look back on.

    My deepest sympathy,

  10. Helen – my favorite memory of Bert is the hayrides in sorority. What fun! Bert drove the tractor. What a long time ago that was! I’m so sorry for your loss.

  11. I worked with Mr. Neugebauer at the Michael’s unit for many years. He was an awesome person to be around. He had a great personality and he was someone you could always count on. He was a silent prankster. It was nice to see a Christian Man devoted to his family and faith especially in such a negative work environment. I know he will be greatly missed by his family but also his friends. People like me his work family will also remember him and smile. It was an honor to know and work with Bert. Sending prayers for comfort to the whole family. Your wonderful memories of him will carry you through this time of grief. He is now a shining star and just look up and know he is waiting for you in Heaven. A friend and co-worker Tenie Griffin
