Cinda Sue Scott

cinda sue scott

August 29, 1939 ~ April 14, 2023

Cinda Sue McCaghren Scott, of Palestine, Texas, joined her husband in Heaven on Friday, the 14th day of April 2023. Mrs. Scott passed away peacefully at the age of 83. She was born in Matador, Texas, on the 29th day of August 1939 to parents William Franklin McCaghren and Thelma Judine Watson McCaghren.

Mrs. Scott was a talented educator, loyal friend, cherished wife, beloved parent, and grandparent, but most importantly, she was a child of God. Marrying at a young age, Mrs. Scott became the wife to a Baptist preacher, Darwin Scott. The couple were blessed with two children, Ray, and Gayla, and they lived a fulfilling life, ministering and traveling the world, until her husband's untimely passing.

Through the years in the ministry, she devoted much of her life to serving in different capacities in the church, either teaching classes or volunteering her time wherever she was needed. One of Mrs. Scott's greatest accomplishments in life, she considered, was raising her children and grandchildren to know the Lord.

Mrs. Scott was a graduate of Stephen F. Austin State University where she earned her bachelor's degree in education. Throughout her career, she held a variety of elementary teaching positions before retiring after 20 years of dedication to the profession. After retiring, she became a member of the local retired teachers club and looked forward to lunches with her longtime colleagues.

"Mimi", as she was affectionately known by her grandchildren, will be profoundly missed, and never forgotten. Her family finds great comfort that she has finally been reunited with her husband after so many years apart.

In Heaven, Mrs. Scott joins her parents William and Thelma McCaghren, husband Darwin Scott, and her brother, W. F. McCaghren.

Mrs. Scott was dearly loved by her family and will continue to live in the hearts of her daughter, Gayla Scott Hudson and husband Jim; son, Darwin Ray Scott, Jr. and wife Dianne; grandchildren, Cinda Warren and husband Cale, Jared Hudson and wife Ashley, Kristen Parnell and husband David, and Brian Scott and wife Anna. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Aiden Hudson, Layla Hudson, Scarlet Hudson, Wes Hudson, Cecil Warren, Brooklynn Parnell, Branson Parnell, Bristol Parnell, Briggs Parnell, Easton Scott, Walker Scott, and Tyler Scott, and other family members, and friends.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from five o'clock until seven o'clock in the evening, on Friday, the 21st day of April 2023 at Rhone Funeral Home.

Graveside services to honor Cinda Scott's life are to be conducted at eleven o' clock in the morning, on Saturday, the 22nd day of April 2023, at Restland Memorial Park, 2107 State Highway 149, in Carthage, Texas. Bro. Tony Watson will be officiating the service.

Honored to serve as honorary pallbearers are Mrs. Scott's grandsons and great-grandsons.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials in Mrs. Scott's memory be directed towards First Baptist Church, 5700 N. Loop 256, Palestine, Texas 75801.

Funeral services for Cinda Sue McCaghren Scott are in care of Rhone Funeral Home, 3900 S. State Highway 19, Palestine, Texas.

  1. What a precious lady! She is now laughing, singing and strolling with her husband on the streets of gold. I’m so thankful God allowed our paths to cross. Will be praying for the family.

  2. The family of Steve & Terri Warren says:

Ms. Sue was one our very best customers when we were in the carpet cleaning business. She always had a beautiful smile to share & she never gave up on “our” children. She would always tell me how much she loved Cale & was always praying for him. That prayer came into fruition when Cale & Cinda were finally married…to this mother’s delight. She would also tell me how much she admired & respected my Mamaw who was a member of her Sunday school classes at First Baptist Church. It always gave me such a joyful heart to see & hear how our lives had interacted with each others. God indeed works in wonderous, miraculous ways & Ms. Sue was one of his prayer warriors. She served as a conduit for others. She has touched our hearts & lives in so many ways & will continue to do so way beyond our earthly time. Our love, prayers, & rejoicings are sent to her family as they embark on this difficult time of bereavement. I pray that knowing what a beautiful soul has been added to heavens garden will somehow help you bear the burden of your loss.
