Bill Brown
October 24, 1954 ~ October 7, 2024
Willam James Brown, of Palestine, Texas, affectionately known to family and friends as Bill passed away surrounded by his family on Monday, the 7th day of October 2024, at the age of 69. He was born in Palestine, Texas, on the 24th day of October 1954 to parents Floyd Brown and Vera Keesler Davis. Bill, a proud graduate of Westwood High School's class of 1973, lived a life marked by dedication and service, both in his professional and personal endeavors. For over four decades, Bill was a steadfast presence at Atmos Energy, where he worked as an equipment operator then meter reader. His colleagues knew him as a man of integrity and diligence, someone who brought not just his skills but also his heart to his work every day.
Beyond his professional life, Bill was deeply involved in his community. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church, where his faith and fellowship were cornerstones of his life. His commitment to service shone brightly through his active participation in the Evening Lions Club, where he worked tirelessly to better the lives of those around him.
Bill's interests were as rich and varied as his contributions to his community. He was an avid outdoorsman, finding peace and joy in fishing and hunting. His garden was a testament to his patience and care, flourishing under his skilled hands as he grew a variety of vegetables. A gifted cook, Bill was renowned for his fried fish—a specialty that brought family and friends together around his table.
Perhaps most dear to Bill was the time he spent with his grandchildren. He was not just a Paw Paw but a mentor and teacher, imparting his knowledge of gardening and his love for the earth to the younger generation. His lessons went beyond the soil, as he nurtured their growth with the same love and attention he gave to his plants.
Generous, friendly, and loving—these words encapsulate the essence of Bill. His presence could light up a room, and his kindness touched the lives of many. Bill's legacy will continue to bloom in the hearts of those who knew him, much like the gardens he tended with such care. He will be deeply missed, yet fondly remembered as a man who lived his life with purpose and love.
Bill leaves behind his wife of 26 years, Kathleen Brown; children, Gina Shook and husband Stephen, of Palestine, Texas, Jarod Brown and wife Amanda, of Krum, Texas, Kristin Ryal and husband Jonathan, of Tyler, Texas, and Jonathan Kelly, of Bonham, Texas. He is also survived by his sisters, Janet McCreary and Nancy Lampo, both of Palestine, Texas, and Joyce Brown, of Syracuse, New York. Bill's grandchildren, Jackson Ryal, Reagan Ryal, Olivia Brown, McKinley Ryal, and Ashlynn Shook, brought him immense joy and he will be dearly missed, along with many other family members and friends. Bill is preceded in death by his parents Floyd Brown and Vera Davis, and his sister, Pat Jones.
A Celebration of Life service is to commence at half-past three o'clock in the afternoon, on Saturday, the 12th day of October 2024 in the Rhone Memorial Chapel. Bro. Lynn Stroud will be officiating the service.
Friends are invited to visit with the family beginning one hour prior to the start of the service at Rhone Funeral Home.
Those honored to serve as honorary pallbearers are Curtis Frazier, Larry Fields, Rusty Davis, Mike Brown, Glen Lowery, Riley Emter, Wayne Olver, Glenn Ray, Rod Ellenburg, and the Atmos Energy work crew.

Glenn and I are broken hearted..Bill has been a wonderful friend for many years. He will be greatly missed.
We lost a good one yesterday. Bill was definitely a great friend. I haven’t seen him in a while but have good memories of meeting on Saturdays to fish at our favorite spot on Catfish Creek. Bill was always smiling and cutting up. Though I know I will see him again, he will be missed until then. My thoughts and prayers to the family.
We lost a great friend and co-worker. Always smiling and always had kind words to say.
He will be truly missed.
With my deepest sympathy to the family.

Bill was one of the most kind hearted and friendly person I have ever known. You will be missed. But now you have a new body with no pain.
I met Bill many years ago and hunted alongside him and his hunting buddies for years. We sat a lot of hours on four wheelers and just chatted. I always liked going and sitting by the campfire and visiting with him. I will surely miss him but I am thankful that his pain is gone forever. Rest in peace my friend.
to The Bill Brown Family- Thinking of you in this time of sorrow. He was a good man, an example by showing kindness to his fellow man. I always called Bill the Ambassador of Palestine, because he showed up for others when needed. Bill will be missed by so many.

Mr. Bill was so much to my daughter, her husband and the 3 boys. Living next door to Bill and Kathleen was like living next door to family. Bill enriched their lives with his gentle soul and his teaching personality. Every conversation with Bill was medicine for the soul. He will be missed tremendously and I will always be grateful for the kindness and caring he showed my family. And yes, that fried catfish of his will go down in the record books!

“Uncle Bill” is what I entered this world calling you…that all stemmed from an inside joke between you and my parents so long ago. I honestly have nothing but fond memories of you throughout the years. One of the most down to earth, kind, loving, caring, true country men I’ve ever known lol. Remember that time a long time ago you had us over for fried “chicken” but really turned out to be squirrel 😅 BEST and only fried squirrel I’ve ever had!! LOL 😆 You were one of my dad’s (Rusty Davis) best friends for over 30 years and a what a dear friendship you guys shared. You were also a great family friend as well â¤ï¸ and will be missed. We love you Bill Brown “Uncle Bill”. Tell my mom (Sylvia Davis) I said hi 🕊😌 Now lean back and rest in your lovely dear stand in the sky and watch over us until we meet again â¤ï¸ 😊 💙
We are so sad to hear of Bill’s passing, but we are grateful that he is no longer suffering. He was such a nice man and will be missed. Our deepest sympathy and love are extended to all of his family. You are in our thoughts and prayers.
