Michael Lee Kobe, age 77, of Palestine, Texas passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, the 9th day of November 2024. Born on the 7th day of October 1947, in Kansas City, Kansas, to John Mike Kobe and Eileen Virginia Flynn, Michael's journey through life was marked by his intelligence, wisdom, and courageous spirit.

Michael proudly served his country in the United States Army, a period of his life that instilled in him the values of discipline and service that he carried with him long after his military days were over. His commitment to his country was a testament to his character and his unwavering sense of duty.

After his military tenure, Michael continued his life of service with the Kansas City, Kansas police department. His 25-year career was marked by integrity and exceptional dedication, culminating in his retirement as a respected captain in 2011. His colleagues remember him as a man who led by example, always first to arrive in times of need and the last to leave when the job was done.

Beyond his professional achievements, Michael was a Life Member of the National Rifle Association. His passion for responsible firearm ownership and education was just one of the many facets of his multifaceted life. Those who shared his interests admired Michael's commitment to the principles he held dear and his tireless advocacy for the rights and responsibilities of his fellow citizens.

But perhaps Michael's most cherished role was that of family man. As a loving husband, he was a partner in every sense of the word, providing unwavering support and an endless supply of love. As a husband, father and grandfather, his gentle kindness was the foundation upon which many happy memories were built. His guidance and warmth shaped the lives of his children and grandchildren, leaving an indelible mark on their hearts.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Michael built a life filled with love, laughter, and dedication. He married the love of his life, Adlene Ruth Kobe, and together they shared 52 years of marriage, creating a legacy of warmth and unity. Their family grew to include three wonderful children, Danielle Weston and her husband Frederick Weston III, Michael J. Kobe and his wife Laura Kobe, and Jessica Berger and her husband Matt Berger, all of whom brought immense joy to Michael's life. His siblings, Eileen Virginia Henry and her husband Jim, James David Kobe, and Robert John Kobe. The joy of family extended to his nine grandchildren, Matthew Weston, Joshua Weston and his wife Stephanie, Garrett Weston, Jacob Weston, Abigail Weston, Austin Kobe, Caroline Kobe, Madeleine Berger, and Annabelle Berger, who were the light of his life and with whom he shared his wisdom and courage.

To our dear Adlene, Danielle, Michael, Jessica and the rest of the family:

Barbara and I are deeply saddened that Mike’s life was prematurely taken by his lung cancer. We know that he was probably happier than anytime in his life and living his dream with you, Adlene. It is our hope that love and peace will surround all of you at this most difficult time. Mike will live on through each of you, and his legacy will never be forgotten. Our love to all of you. Rick and Barbara

  3. Adlene, I am sorry to hear of Mike’s passing. I know it is difficult to lose your husband due to a terrible disease. I was traveling in the airstream (Elektra) you so lovingly took care of until selling when he passed. Mike would be happy to know that it is being well taken care of. I hope you can return to traveling with your family in the future. God bless you.
