November 22, 1928 ~ July 13, 2025

Anita Mae Lamb was born in Anderson County, Texas on November 22, 1928, to the late Eli Wesley Teel and Cora Main Teel. At home surrounded by her loved ones, she passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2025. She was 96 years of age when she was called home by her loving Lord and Savior.

"Nita" as she was best known, graduated from Maydell High School in 1945 and went straight to business school where she finished in early January 1946. She then began her career in the Anderson County Clerk's office on January 22, 1946, and worked there until May 12, 1969. Immediately after, Nita went to work for County Judge Link and worked for him until they both retired in 1982. However, she did not enjoy retirement for very long. She was called back to work part-time in different offices in the courthouse. Nita filled in for twelve various county offices and three local attorney offices. The last four years she worked for four Justices of the Peace and the County Judge. Nita went through a lot of changes over the years and finally decided to retire for the second time in December of 2024, with seventy years of service.

Nita's life was truly a testimony of love and hard work. Until April of this year, she was still mowing her yard and gardening along with all her good cooking. She was also still driving anywhere her heart desired. Nita was a faithful member of Neches Methodist Church and devoted her life to serving the Lord and others. She will be missed by all her loved ones, colleagues, and numerous friends.

Nita is preceded in death by her parents Eli and Cora Teel; husband, Lester Lamb; two daughters, Donna Evans and Debbie Modisette; and her special cousin, Mamie Jo Huddleston.

She leaves behind her son, Darwin Lamb and wife Gayle; sister, Leta Alexander; sons-in-law, Larry Evans and Mike Modisette; grandsons, David Modisette and wife Heather, Scott Evans and wife Jenna, D.J. Lamb and wife Jaimie, and Brannon Lamb. Nita is also survived by her eight great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson, and many friends.

Friends are invited to visit with the family from 6:00p.m until 8:00p.m. on Friday, July 18, 2025, at Rhone Funeral Home.

Funeral services to celebrate Anita Mae Lamb's life are to be conducted at 10:30a.m. on Saturday, July 19, 2025, in the Rhone Memorial Chapel with Jacob Dunn and Chris Claytor officiating the service. Interment will follow in Roselawn Park.

  5. Mrs. Nita will forever be remembered in our hearts for all the inspiration, friendship, dedication to working hard and being loyal. If you were ever blessed by a dish she baked or cooked or her jams or jelly, then you know that was a special treat! There was nobody like her. She was very special. Never wanted anyone to make a big fuss over her. She was a true gem to know and love. Thank you, Mrs. Nita for the shared recipes, shared stories, shared jams and for all our talks over the years. You will be greatly missed and are loved by so many of us. God be with your family and prayers to all that loved you and will miss you.
Proverbs 31:10-31 is a perfect description of our Nita. “Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies.”

  14. She was always such an inspiration. No matter how she felt she always had a kind word. She made everyone around her feel important. And always had a smile and sometimes even a hug for me whenever I saw her. She always made sure to ask about my family. Especially my Mom before she went to Heaven. This world needs a lot more people like sweet Anita. She is certainly going to be missed.
