December 15, 1944 ~ October 16, 2025

Amelia "Mimi" Peterson, of Palestine, Texas, went home to be with her loving Lord and Savior on Thursday, the 16th day of October 2025, surrounded by the warmth of her family. She was 80 years of age when the Lord called her home. Mimi was born in Washington, D.C. on the 15th day of December 1944 to parents Adam Armstrong and Theresa Stephens.

Mimi's love for the Lord was evident in every aspect of her life. She lived her faith through her actions, always extending a hand of kindness and a spirit of generosity to those around her. Mimi's love for children was evident to all who knew her. She had a special way of making each child feel cherished and important. Her legacy will live on in all the lives she touched.

Mimi was a master seamstress whose hands lovingly crafted many wedding dresses and crocheted beautiful aphgans, each stitch or pattern a testament to her dedication to her art. She loved being able to share her talent with her family and friends. Mimi enjoyed gardening and making sure her yard was impeccable.

Left to cherish the memories are her loving husband Benjamin William Peterson; daughter, Becky Goodman and husband Darren; sons, William L. Peterson and wife Thuy, and Michael K. Peterson and wife Gretchen; daughter in love, Tracy Benge; brother, C. Daniel Armstrong and wife Shelley. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. Each of them will carry a piece of their grandma in their hearts forever.

Mimi is preceded in death by her parents Adam and Theresa Armstrong.

A private graveside service to celebrate Mimi's life is to be conducted at Garden of Memories Cemetery, Elkhart Texas.

Graveside services for Mimi Peterson are in care of Rhone Funeral Home, 3900 S. State Highway 19, Palestine, Texas. Please visit her online memorial tribute at www.rhonefuneralhome.com, where words of comfort and condolence may be shared electronically with her family

  3. Ray Smith aka Little Ray says:

“We are confident, I say, and would prefer to be away from the body and at home with the Lord.” 2 Corinthians 5:8. Thus, the Lord has granted this for our dear Amelia “Mimi” (Armstrong) Peterson by His grace. Now she has entered into His rest.
Though “Amelia” has no direct meaning in the Hebrew language, combing it with “work” or “laborer” from the German meaning, along with Eli, which is God in Hebrew, we can derive a truth, Amelia, “Mimi” was a “Laborer for God”. Many come and many go in a lifetime, but there are a few, maybe even a handful at best, that have a deep spiritual heart and impact upon a soul, as this daughter of the King of kings did to me, her Nephew and countless others who were blessed by her sojourn on this earth.
I am reminded of a description of Timothy’s matriarchs; The Apostle Paul noted the sincere faith that lived first in Timothy’s grandmother, Lois, and then in his mother, Eunice, before being passed down to him. This shows how faith can be nurtured and sustained across generations within a family. Amelia “Mimi” did exemplify this sort of justification in her own family as Apostle Paul noted. She would find a mission field in retail work, in baby-sitting, in knitting or crocheting an Afghani or in a visit to the post office, leaving “God promises” book there for others to see, to open to read and be blessed, possibly coming to salvation by grace.
Even in the battles throughout her life, she found peace in being a witness to others truly being wonderfully knit by God himself, in 1944, to be birthed and to be a blessing in more ways than many would ever realize or know. Yes, she will be missed on the piano ivories, now no longer tickled by her playing. She would focus on hymns she played and defocus her listening to the many off key voices that gathered around to make the vocal attempts seem, well…, heavenly??
She had more energy daily, than seemed logical, age did not define her. Sometimes watching her could make a person feel worn out as she clearly did all things as if for the Lord. She demonstrated how the word of God had the power to bring the blessing, through many trials and troubles. How waiting on the Lord was the right thing to do, going to the Lord regardless of what the issue being faced. She would seek to find the blessings in every situation and could equally minister to a baby or to the most senior of any she may have ever encountered.
She was and is and shall always be my aunt, a significant portion of my life, a shoulder to rest upon at times, an open door to rest for my weary moments, a place to lay down, and a sanctuary to go, when all the scattered senses have left me. I will miss most of all, our discussions of scriptures, the testimonies of what God has done, was doing and hoped he would do. She was waiting for the sound of the trumpet; she waits no more, but would tell us, listen, listen! Thus, we give Glory to God for her, for her life and for her being the beautiful feet that brought the good news of the Gospel, in obedience to the word of the Lord. We know that she continued that which was started to the day of Christ. We give thanks to God for His indescribable gift, and for one of His earthly angels, “Mimi”. Amen.

  4. As I shed tears at the news of your passage to join Our Heavenly Father, I remember the amazing kindness and grace you showed me during my brief time as a guest in your home. As you expressed to me your immense gratitude for partnering with my wife Lena to raise two of your precious grandchildren Charlotte and her younger brother Christopher, you said that you love me. I just want you to know how highly I regard you among all children of God and that that I do love you too, Mimi. May the Almighty receive you into his loving arms, and may you have the eternal joy and peace that you surely deserve. We’ll see you again one day. Lots of love from the Jeff and Lena Noack (and all of the kids) family.
