Michael Lee Gordon
September 16, 1954 ~ February 28, 2026
Michael Lee Gordon, age 71, of Elkhart, Texas, left this world for his heavenly home on Saturday, the 28th day of February 2026. He was surrounded by the love and support of his devoted family when he passed away to be with our Lord, the God who wipes away all tears. "Mike" as he was best known, was born on the 16th day of September 1954 in Houston, Texas to the late Dow Leroy Gordon, Jr. and Edwyna Sue Bristow Gordon.
Mike was a man who truly showed up for life. Nothing meant more to him than family; when his children were growing up, he was the devoted cheerleader and coach for his kids for all their baseball, softball, and football games and recitals and the proudest observer at every grandchild's event. He taught his family the value of hard work and the even greater value of being there for the people you love.
Mike was a graduate of Elkhart High School. After graduation, he attended college for a short time and went on to have a long career with Union Pacific Railroad, where he worked as a supervisor in the car shop before retiring. Mike was a long-time member of the Masonic Lodge of Elkhart, where he formed lasting friendships. Also, he was elected two terms as Mayor and several years as a City Council Member for the city of Elkhart where he willingly and diligently served the citizens in his community. Mike enjoyed hunting, collecting guns, restoring old electronics, and fixing various things by researching videos on YouTube. Mike was loved by all and will be sorely missed but his legacy will live on in the hearts of those who loved him dearly.
Mike is preceded in death by his parents, and his sister, Terry Fitzpatrick.
He leaves behind his wife of 50 years, Helen Sheridan Gordon; son, Jerod Gordon and wife Jessie of Tyler, Texas; daughter, Julie Gordon of Elkhart, Texas; sister, Connie Goodman of College Station; brother, Pat Gordon of Elkhart, Texas; and his beloved grandchildren, Aubrey, Cameron, and Mason. Mike also leaves behind extended family members and numerous friends.
Friends are invited to visit with the family from six o'clock until eight o'clock in the evening on Thursday, the 5th day of March 2026 at Rhone Funeral Home.
Funeral services to celebrate Mike Gordon's life are to be conducted at two o'clock in the afternoon on Friday, the 6th day of March 2026 in the Rhone Memorial Chapel with Darren "Deke" Farley officiating the service. Interment will follow in Pilgrim Cemetery.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Jon-Michael Gordon, Tye Sheridan, Austin Sheridan, Christopher Davis, Bryan Sheridan, Chris Sheridan, Billy Jack Wright, and Zach Arden. Honorary pallbearers include Randy Grant, Alan Grant, and Nolan Grant.

Love, Walley family
Me and MIKE GO back many many years. We have shared so much together! If there is one thing he loved it was family first. He was so proud of his family! He was someone I could count on to be right there if I needed him to be. He also loved hunting and fishing! I could be talking to him while he was casting for bass and he wouldn’t hear a word i was saying because his attention was getting that bass to strike his lure! Mike was truly my best friend and I will miss him! RIP my brother!
Lifting the family up in our prayers with our deepest condolences to Helen Kay and family during the difficult days ahead.

I loved ole Mike Gordon.I started my career with Mike at RR in 2011.When we first met we hit it off!All our conversation were about the Neches River, squirrel hunting, deer hunting, guns and coyote hunting.I ended up with Mikes Jon boat through a gun deal.I have made many memories in it on the Neches river still to this day.He loved his wife and kids dearly and was proud of them. One funny story that comes in my is a squirrel hunt I carried him on in Neches river bottom. He had an old browning lever action .22.I got him set up and I wandered several hundred yards and begin hunting.Every 10-15 minutes I would hear him shoot 1 time.I went back to truck at the time we were exposed to meet waiting on him.He was an hour late getting back😂.When I seen him walking toward me I couldn’t see nothing but squirrel tails sticking everywhere out of his bag!He had 18 cat squirrels he ahoy sitting in one spot!Great memories!RIP Mike Gordon see you on the other side of GOD’s RIVER!
