Brad Sutton
March 5, 1970 ~ May 18, 2024
Bradley Allen Sutton, of Palestine, Texas, passed away tragically in a motorcycle accident on Saturday, the 18th day of May 2024, at the age of 54. Born on the 5th day of March 1970, in Miami County, Indiana, he was the cherished son of Jerry Allen Sutton and Suzanne Sutton. Brad grew into a man of remarkable character, defined by his loving nature, adventurous spirit, and courageous heart.
A graduate of the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy, Brad served his country with honor and distinction for 23 years. As an active duty solider (1991-1997) he trained as a mechanic and welder while stationed in West Germany. Upon leaving full time active-duty service, he joined the Texas National Guard while working full time as a Correctional Officer at TDCJ. While serving with the Texas National Guard, he was deployed to Iraq during the Iraqi Freedom campaign (2003-2004) and later deployed to Egypt (2015 and 2020). After 12 years with TDCJ, he entered the Texas Department of Public Safety Training Academy and graduated as a State Trooper in 2010 with honors and was chosen to be the Sergeant at Arms for his graduating class. He continued serving with DPS full-time until his retirement from DPS and the Texas National Guard in 2023, upon which he returned to TDCJ as a Retention Officer. Brad's work ethic, leadership, and camaraderie were an inspiration to his work family, and his absence will leave an irreplaceable void in the many lives he touched.
Brad's zest for life was as vast as the outdoors he so loved. He was an excellent mechanic, a skill he applied with enthusiasm to his many hobbies, including riding motorcycles, enjoying mud parks, and participating in cannonball runs. He was also a member of the Crusaders Union Motorcycle Club, and his adventurous spirit was matched only by his courage and the love he held for his family, friends, and his beloved dogs over the years.
Those who had the pleasure of knowing Brad would describe him as a man with the biggest heart. He loved everyone unconditionally and was a great friend to many. His laughter, warmth, and the stories of his adventures will be fondly remembered and sorely missed by all.
Brad's life was marked by his unwavering dedication to his family, his country, and his community. He was a devoted husband to his loving wife of 17 years, Shawna Sutton, a role model to his children, and a pillar of strength to all who knew him. Brad leaves behind a legacy of love and service, including his parents, Jerry and Suzanne Sutton; his son, Chase Allen Sutton and wife Courtney, stepsons, Dustin Ray Platt and wife Brianne, and Zachary Cameron Bynum and wife Lynette; his sister, Stacy Sutton Kerby and husband Kelly; as well as his treasured grandchildren, Keaten Sutton, Wesley Bynum, Harper Platt, Waylon Platt, and Kash Platt. I met Brad at Camp Swift (Bastrop) as we were both assigned to the 136th Regional Training Regiment Texas Army National Guard. I hadn’t seen Brad in some years, but reconnected in the Motorcycle Club CRUSADERS UNION. Since then we have enjoyed each others company and shared a passion for restoring classic Automobiles. Brad was definitely a special guy, loved life and his family. My deepest condolences 💠go out to all affected.
I met “Sutty†as we called him back in 2006. Fun guy, outgoing, eager to learn new things, and I always enjoyed being in his company. He was dedicated to his country. Dedicated to the causes that he loved. He was one of the good guys. Praying for you Shawna.
Prayers for the Sutton Family and friends. Sutton will be missed by many.
Thank you for your service to the people of Texas. My thought and prayers are with your loved ones.
I’ve known Brad for many years and have such fond memories of working with him. Brad was a good and decent man, and even though he was several years my junior, I always looked up to him. What I remember most is his professionalism, loyalty, and unwavering kindness. Now that he rests beyond the moon and stars, may God provide peace and comfort to his precious wife Shawna, and all who knew and loved him-until we meet again. ðŸ™ðŸ’”
I have known Brad Sutton a little over 17 years. He was one of the nicest, straight forward, fun loving guys I’ve ever known. If he knew you , you were always greeted as a friend, he was honest to a fault, and the most truly dedicated person to everything he did that I have ever known! I attended his wedding to Shawna years ago and he always told others what a wonderful wife he had, his love for her and anyone in his life , never faded! It’s a shame the truly ‘BEST OF US!’ have to leave well before our time! My sincere condolences to Shawna, all of his family, and friends!
I was fortunate enough to have made numerous calls of service with Brad in the Frankston area. He was the ultimate professional. A true HERO. He will be greatly missed. My condolences to his Family and friends.
One weekend when me and my brothers were younger. Brad aka dad had us plant pine tree seeds.
Well about a year later he asked me to mow the pasture. I had totally forgot about the baby pine trees. And I mowed them all down.
He chased me around the yard trying to kick my butt. Then he took my computer out of my 91 Chevy so it wouldn’t run. I road the bus that week to school.
When I got older that was something we laughed about a lot. Ily pops I’ll never forget the good times.
I had the honor of serving with Brad Sutton in Iraq. He was a true professional and a loyal friend to his follow Soldiers. He was a tried and true leader. He will be greatly missed. He served with honor and distinction for the United States of America, Texas and for his fellow Soldiers.
I met Brad in 1997, we had both just started working for Texas Dept. Of Criminal Justice, we became good friends, he was our chaperone when us girls went out, he made sure we were safe. He was an immediate hit with my daughter, fascinating her with rope tricks, playing basketball with her and the boys, and even riding horses with the family, she loved her “Uncle Brad”. So time went on and Brad and Shawna met, they got married and it became official, he really was “Uncle Brad”, he kept her out of trouble the best he could. Many years later, about a month after Morgan and I started dating, I had sent Morgan on an errand. Just so happened that he was speeding and he got caught. He calls me and said “I just got pulled over for speeding”, and I asked who stopped him, he sees the name tag and says “Sutton”, I told Morgan to hand Brad the phone, both were very confused as he did so. I told Brad, “I need you to let him go, he’s got people waiting for him.” Brad replies “Well hello Tonya, he will be on his way shortly. ” Morgan had no idea that Brad was family, but he was sure grateful. Brad asks ” so you and Tonya, how long has this been going on? ” Morgan said “a month or so,” Brad just said “hmmm, I didn’t know. ” He and Shawna came by and visited us a day or so later, That was the beginning of one of the best friendships Morgan has ever had. If ever Morgan was not at home, he was at Brad’s, Morgan, Brad and Chase has built and repaired so many things in that shop
They taught Trinton how to be a mechanic in that shop. We had no idea that they would become such great friends and I couldn’t ask for a better friend for Morgan. From beach trips, to river trips, mud parks, to mountains, bike rides, and back roads. We will all miss Brad and his adventurous spirit. Until we meet again. We love ya man, and Thank You so Very Much for looking out for our family and being the wonderful person you are.

Brad always had a smile on his face and conducted himself as a consummate professional in the workplace. Loved by all who were fortunate to know him.
CSM Sutton, was a great man, and a great leader. I was deployed with him in Egypt in 2015 under HHT 1-112th CAV. I was his operations sgt and he was taught me many things not just deployed but state side too. I was very lucky to have worked under him and I am very heartbroken to know that he has passed away. My deepest condolences to his wife, kids, and family I grieve for the loss of a great man and leader.
Thank you, Steven, for your service and kind support. â¤ï¸
CSM Sutton was the epitome of what a true leader is. During his time as 1SG at HHT 1-112 CAV he brought a different energy to the unit both stateside and during mobilization and made drills/deployment much more enjoyable. He was stern but he was also fair. Never once did I ever hear any Soldiers complain about top. He was right there along the Joes for MWR events. He truly was all for the troops. My condolences and prayers go out to his family and friends.
My deepest condolences to Shawna and the Sutton family over the loss of Brad. I never had the opportunity to meet Brad face to face but served him and Shawna by phone working as a Loan Officer at Texas DPS Credit Union. It was always a pleasure talking with him and I could sense he was a fine family man. Praying for peace and comfort for the family.
Those we love do not go away, they walk beside us in our hearts and memories. The loss can feel immeasurable, but so is the love and legacy left behind by Brad. We at Dogwood Sales are thankful that we had the chance and honor to work with Brad and call him our Friend.
The most prideful thing I ever did was shake officer Brad Suttons hand, he saved my life. My condolences to his family and friends and prayers for peace and comfort.
I had the opportunity to serve with MSG Sutton in 1-112 Cav when he was my first sergeant and then moved to our CSM. He made drill bearable when thing were rough and he always had a great sense of humor while also treating everyone with great respect. I am so sorry for you loss.
I deployed to Egypt with CSM Sutton in 2015. I remember having a hard time adjusting to being overseas, he sat me down in his office and helped me realize it was an experience and it was my choice to make it good or to make it bad. He was a great man and will truly be missed. My deepest condolence’s to his family.
I had the privilege of serving with CSM Sutton on several assignments, and I will always cherish his unwavering passion for boosting morale and keeping the CAV legacy alive. His pride in being a leader was evident, and he genuinely cared about improving the quality of life for his subordinates. He will be greatly missed.
I remember him giving me a really cool small tactical backpack from a storage bin in his office.. he was clearing space and also making fun of the big goofy one I had been using. What he gave me was perfect for everyday use as a Staff Officer. I am saddened by the news of his passing and will always remember him as someone you could trust for candor and for quick problem solving on anything.. he’d get a good laugh afterwards, and while during the situation come to think of it. You could always count on him and he’ll be missed.
