David "Dave" Joseph Mapp, age 70, of Palestine, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, the 14th day of May, 2018. He was born in Norfolk, Virginia on the 28th day of November, 1947 to William Coleman Mapp and Anna Stowe Mapp. Dave was a Vietnam Veteran and a manager of McCoy's Building Supply for 22 years until his retirement; he then worked in the construction industry in the Palestine area. Dave loved all sports, especially baseball. He was an avid Astros fan and enjoyed beating his kids at fantasy football. Dave had a love for poetry and never met a stranger. He was a Godly man who loved his family and will be greatly missed.

He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Anna Mapp. Dave is survived by his wife of 41 years, Paula Mapp of Palestine, Texas; daughters, Bethany Eye and Nathan of Cypress, Texas, Angela Watts and Jason of Springfield, Missouri, Amy Sorbera and Chris of San Antonio, Texas, Sara Lloyd and Joshua of Seabrook, Texas, Stacie Mapp of Texarkana, Texas; sons, Seth Mapp and Kristy of League City, Texas, Nathan Mapp and Crystal of Ozark, Missouri; sisters, Eva Neal and Buddy of Crockett, Texas, Lee Ann Raffinan of Crockett, Texas; brothers, Jerry Zeedyk of Pasadena, Texas, Steve Zeedyk and Felicia of Kansas; 14 grandchildren and 2 on the way.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from six o'clock until eight o'clock in the evening on Thursday, the 17th day of May, 2018 in the Parlor and Reflection Room at Rhone Funeral Home.

Funeral services with Military Honors for David Joseph Mapp will be conducted at ten o'clock in the morning on Friday, the 18th day of May, 2018 in the Rhone Memorial Chapel. Following the funeral, Dave will be cremated and interred in the Houston National Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions in Dave Mapp's memory can be directed towards Orphan's Promise, www.orphanspromise.org.

    We are grieving at the loss of our dear friend David but that is our early selfishness. David’s life on earth has ended but he is nestled in the arms of our creator through Jesus’ love and for this we should give glory to God.

  5. I just want to tell Paula and all the family i am Davids cousin who never had to pleasure on meeting him in person but met him on facebook. I was very excited to meet him on fb because I knew i had more cousins i had not met. I could tell right away he was a family man and a good man. I looked thru the pictures and talked to him about maybe one day going to the family reunion. We would have enjoyed meeting him and the rest of the family. I just pray God will touch ya’ll and gave ya’ll peace.

  14. I’m so sad that Uncle David has left us but I’m so happy I was able to reconnect with him and Aunt Paula this past weekend. He has always been so kind, happy and easy to talk to. My earliest memories of Uncle David are him playing Atari with me and the cousins. He wrecked many a joystick in his pure excitement of playing with us. I will miss him. I had to share this photo of Uncle David with his best new friend Everly from this past weekend; he made quite the impression on my niece. Hugs to Aunt Paula, Bethany, Seth, Nathan, Angela, Sara and Stacey.
