David Lee Hinson, Jr., age 63, of Palestine, Texas, passed away at Palestine Regional Medical Center on Tuesday, the 31st day of October 2023 with his family by his side. He was born on the 8th day of March 1960, in Houston, Texas, to parents David Lee Hinson and Mary Rachel Holley Hinson.
David was known for his straightforward nature and his love for children. He had a knack for making kids feel special and loved, often going out of his way to bring a smile to their faces. David was also known for his ornery character, always standing up for what he believed in and never shying away from expressing his views. His honesty and integrity were admired by all who knew him.
An avid outdoorsman, David found peace and joy in nature. He was a skilled hunter and fisherman, who loved nothing more than spending a day in the great outdoors. His love for animals extended beyond the wild, as he had a deep affection for his dogs, who were his constant companions and brought him immeasurable joy. David spent his professional life serving as a correctional officer.
In his passing, we remember David not with sadness, but with gratitude for having had the privilege of knowing such a remarkable man. His legacy of love, kindness, and dedication will continue to inspire those who knew him. David will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of his loved ones.
David is now reunited with his beloved parents, David and Mary Hinson.
David was a beloved brother to Gaye Karriker and her husband Jerry Jr. David was a devoted uncle to his nieces Rachel Pena, Codye Facio and husband Javi, and Beth Bond and husband Jonathan. He also held a special place in his heart for his nephew, J.R. Karriker III, and great nieces and nephews, Brayden Gruetzner, Jayden Lann, Macie Facio, Lexie Facio, Corbyn Ray, Ethan Karriker, Allyson Karriker, and Lakelyn Bond. Daivd also leaves behind his adopted family, Virginia and Cecil Stanaland, Eddie and Robin Stanaland, and their children and grandchildren. It saddened me so deeply to hear of David’s passing. Although I haven’t seen David for quite a while, I have many memories of hunting and fishing trips where David was in the middle of it all. I cherish those memories to the bottom of my soul.
To the family, may you all rest assured that God has reserved a special place in Heaven for David and we will ALL see him again one day.
May God bless you!!!
Sincerely,
Randy Arnett
My bother Danny and I have such fond memories of David and his sister Gaye, and their parents David and Mary. We all grew up with his folks and my grandmother, Maw Maw, who would take all of us fishing many times at Long Lake off Hwy 79/84 west of Palestine.
Maw Maw, David, Mary and our Uncle JB and Aunt Bloomie all had Long Lake cabins and we spent so many weekends catching bass, brim, catfish and even carp using a flat bottom boat and a trolling motor. Many times, before a planned fishing trip we had to climb the huge Catalpa tree in Swanson Hill off FM 323 in Palestine to get the Catawba worms to use as fish bait. David will be missed. Love, Ricky Link
David was a wonderful person, he was more like a brother to me since he and my brother, Rowdy were the best of friends since forever and there are not too many people as kind as and considerate as David was, we definitely need more people like David was.
Sincerely, Pat Anne Allen
Thank you so much Randy. I never dreamed I would lose my brother so early in life. He was so full of life & I’m having a hard time imagining my life without him in it.
David is very special to our family, we loved him very much and will especially miss him this Thanksgiving. It will be the first one in 38 years that he won’t be a part of.
David was always a lot of fun. I remember hunting at Long Lake with David, Eddie and Cecil Stanaland. We were standing in a group of trees and lightning struck the ground right in the middle of all of us. Nobody said a word, but we all ran to the pick up. I remember when he and Eddie would come fishing in Henderson county. I have a picture of Eddie and David holding a 62 pound blue catfish we caught. David really enjoyed making fun of me because my knots would slip. “ Do you want me to put a swivel on that line for you?†We made a lot of memories but we should’ve made more. My sympathy to the family.
What beautiful words to describe David! We were honored that he considered us such close family for all of these years. He always made me feel special growing up and was just getting to share that with my boys. From feeding cows, to teaching me how to put a worm on a hook, to being tickle monster, so many fun times were shared with him. I am sad that my sons will not get to make the memories that I was blessed to, but am grateful that David is at peace with God. We will always love him and keep our memories close to our hearts.
Love, Lauren
