On Wednesday, the 6th day of July 2022, Donna Gayle Thompson, of Palestine, Texas, passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side. She was 82 years of age. Mrs. Thompson was born in Palestine, Texas, on the 14th day of August 1939, to parents Marcus Huddleston and Ruth Funderburk Huddleston.

Mrs. Thompson was a faithful Christian who loved the Lord with all of her heart. She married the love of her life, Loren Thompson, on December 31, 1956, and the two were blessed with children and a successful business, Loren's Grocery, in Elkhart, Texas. Mrs. Thompson was an excellent cook who loved her family and enjoyed spoiling them whenever she could. She worked as a beautician for over 30 years, a job she greatly enjoyed because of the wonderful people she encountered. Mrs. Thompson was a huge fan of Elvis and listened to his music regularly. Mrs. Thompson was a lovely lady with a kind heart and will be missed.

Mrs. Thompson was deeply loved by her husband Loren Thompson; daughters, Rondalyn Harris, and Lene Jensen; son, Stephen Thompson and wife Jan; grandchildren, Darrell "Buzzy" Harris, Ashley Jameson and husband Carl, Vana White and fiancé Billy Vickery, Victor Loren "Chip" Thompson and wife Brittany, Dawn Jones and husband Austin, Leigha Canales, Slaton Styles and wife Ciji, and Hope Julian. Mrs. Thompson also leaves behind her great-grandchildren, Shelby Harris, Jaden Roberson, Maggie McSwane and husband Jake, Bailey Barron, Caleb Thompson, Sydnie Jones, Jackson Jones, Blakely Jones, Dawson Jones, Makoa; great-great-grandchild, Layken McSwane, and numerous cousins and friends.

Funeral services to celebrate Mrs. Thompson's life are to be conducted at two o'clock in the afternoon, on Sunday, the 10th day of July 2022 in the Rhone Memorial Chapel with Bro. Barney Walker officiating. Interment will follow in the Funderburk Family Cemetery.

Friends are invited to visit with the family one hour prior to the start of the service at Rhone Funeral Home.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Troy Dancer, Darrell Harris, Chip Thompson, Mark Kirkwood, Easy Foster, and Wayne Woodard.

  6. Our hearts and prayers go out to the family and friends of Donna Thompson. Little did I know when I saw her in the store years ago that we would be connected by marriage and family to her. She just happens to be the great grandmother of our granddaughter in- law, Maggie McSwane and great granddaughter, Layken McSwane. What a life it must have been to have as many people love you as Mrs. Thompson did.
