October 8, 1930 ~ October 14, 2016

Heinz Kurt Herbert Bromme, 86, of Elkhart, Tx passed away October 14, 2016. He was the son of Erich and Mariechen (Stephan) Bromme and was born October 8, 1930 in Nordenham, Germany. While Heinz was his given name, he was known by his family and friends as "Opa".

Opa emigrated from Germany with his wife, Ursula, and daughter, Barbara, in 1971. They initially moved to California and to Texas in 1986. Opa worked as a butcher in California and retired from the prison system in East Texas.

Music came naturally to Opa. He was part of the choir, played the piano, accordion, and harmonica to name a few. He was athletic and excelled in soccer and bowling. He loved to garden, solve crossword puzzles and never missed an episode of Wheel of Fortune or Jeopardy.

Opa will be greatly missed by his wife of 64 years, Ursula; daughter, Barbara (Andy) Keeton; sister, Erika May; grandchildren, Jeremy (Kimberly) and Maria (Joshua); great-grandchildren, Amaya and Keeton; nieces, Irene, Karie, Ulrike and Ellie; nephews, Hans Gerd and Daniel; sister-in-law, Gertrud. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister (Christa), brother (Gerd), and brother-in-law (Frank).

  9. A few days ago reading the letters of Vincent van Gogh I found this:

“Why, I ask myself, shouldn’t the shining dots of the sky not be as accessible as
the black dots on the map of France? Just as we take the train to get to Tarascon
or Rouen, we take death to reach a star.”
    Vincent van Gogh

Onkel Heinz, auf welchem Stern bist Du?
    Hast Du Deinen Stern gefunden?

    Elli
