Jerry Lee Blackmon, 67, of Nacogdoches, Texas, passed away peacefully at his home on October 16, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer. Jerry lived a life grounded in faith, guided by strong convictions, and enriched by the people and experiences the Lord placed along his path. He was a hardworking man who remained steadfast in his beliefs, led by example, and loved Jesus deeply. He also had a spirit of adventure and a desire to experience the world around him.
Looking back on his life, especially the nearly 13 years following his diagnosis, there is much to celebrate and so much to be thankful for. Those years brought some of life’s greatest blessings: the opportunity to watch his children grow and reach milestones that every parent hopes to witness. Jerry was able to watch his son, Jerrod, play baseball, graduate from college, and begin his career. He also had the joy of seeing his daughter, Lerin, marry Collen and begin a family of her own. He was able to watch his grandchildren, Caylee and Logan, grow, cheer them on at sporting events, and celebrate their milestones. These were precious moments that might have once seemed uncertain, but by the grace of God, Jerry was here to experience them.
Jerry’s sense of adventure was a part of who he was long before his diagnosis. He had a desire to see the world and experience what it had to offer, traveling to numerous places throughout the United States and abroad. His curiosity even led him to take pilot lessons, reflecting his interest in exploring new possibilities and seeing the world from a different perspective. He traveled with family to Ireland and Scotland, creating memories and experiencing new places alongside those he loved. Those years also gave Jerry and Debbie the gift of more time together—to travel, share new experiences, and continue building memories as husband and wife. Their trip to Alaska in July 2026, along with their travels to other places, was another reminder of the life they were blessed to continue sharing.
Jerry was a hardworking man who dedicated many years to Oncor Electric Company. He was also a gifted athlete, possessing a natural talent and competitive spirit that were a memorable part of who he was. Above all, Jerry loved Jesus. His faith was the foundation of his life, and he faithfully served as a deacon at First Baptist Church in Nacogdoches. He was a godly example to his children and grandchildren, remaining steadfast in his beliefs and leading through the way he lived. Jerry was a man of quiet strength and unwavering convictions. He stood firm in his morals, remained true to what he believed was right, and led by example rather than by words alone. His strong work ethic, steadfast faith, and the values he lived by will remain a lasting part of his family’s legacy.
Celebrating the life of Jerry are his wife of 44 years, Debbie Blackmon; their son, Jerrod Blackmon; and their daughter, Lerin Russell, and her husband, Collen, along with their children, Caylee and Logan. He is also survived by his brothers, George Blackmon and his wife, Martha; Pat Blackmon and his wife, Pam; and Sam Blackmon and his wife, Marla; and his sisters, Peggy Cox and her husband, Mike; Becca Camacho; and Becky Turner and her husband, Lance. Jerry also leaves behind his mother-in-law, Doretta Taylor, and his brother-in-law, Jody Taylor, and his wife, Sheri. Additionally, he leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, M.T. and LaVern Blackmon; his brother, Mitchel Blackmon; his father-in-law, Wesley Taylor; and his nephew, Cory Blackmon.

I will always remember how kind Jerry was to me when I moved to Elkhart and began attending school there. He became my school bus seat partner as we traveled to football games throughout our high school years. He stood by my side as a member of my wedding party, and from the day we met, he remained a dear and faithful friend.
Jerry set a Christian example for me from the very beginning of our friendship until the day he passed away. He not only showed me how a Christian should live, but also how a Christian can face the end of this earthly life with faith, courage, and peace. He faced his battle with cancer with a strength that came from his unwavering trust in God. When he knew his final days were approaching, he faced them courageously, embracing the time he had left with his beloved family.
Jerry Blackmon made an impact on my life that I will carry with me for as long as I live. His friendship, his faith, and the example he set are gifts I will always treasure. He was truly one of the finest men I have ever known, and I am grateful to have had him as my friend. I will miss him, but I will remember him forever.
