Jimmy Ray "Sonny" Turner, age 82, of Grapeland, Texas passed away Wednesday, April 5, 2017 in Winfield Nursing Center in Crockett, Texas. Sonny was born February 21, 1935 in Houston County to parents, Lewis Turner and Libby Owens Turner. He was retired from the Grapeland Co-Op. Mr. Turner was a member of Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church of Grapeland.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Libby Turner; sisters, Katie Weisinger, Sprucy Nuerenberg, Louise Starkey, and Sissy Vickers; brothers, Colquitt Skidmore, Roland Turner, and Bill Turner.
Sonny is survived by his sister, Marie Turner of Grapeland, Texas and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services for Jimmy Ray "Sonny" Turner will be held Friday, April 7, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Refuge Cemetery in Grapeland, Texas with Bro. Will Yates officiating.
Funeral arrangements are in care of Rhone Funeral Home, 3900 S. State Hwy 19, Palestine, Texas.

My sincerest condolences to your family. Sonny lived with us the longest and he will be missed. Again, you and your family are in my prayers.
Sonny will be missed by one and all. I remember one day he came in to pay his rent and told me ‘You have it cold enough to hang meat in here!’ I told him he could put on a coat cuz I was hot and he didn’t want me taking off any of my clothes! He chuckled and said he’d bring a coat next time. He was a grump sometimes, but I loved him just the same. He will be missed. Bobby and I send prayers for your comfort. Love, Janet
