Martha was my oldest and dearest friend having met her in first grade at TexasÂ
A & M elementary school in Mrs. Ledbetter’s class. We became fast friends. I loved going to her house and playing in the playhouse in the back yard. Her mom would bring us lunch with a banana drink, as I recall. Wonderful meals were shared at the family dinner table. Her mom made an awesome potroast. My family moved back to California in the middle of 5th grade. Martha and I kept in contact from then on. I was a bridesmaid in her wedding, riding the bus out to Texas. I wouldn’t have missed it.
Marriages, children and grandchildren were shared through letters and phone calls. I attended Ginny”s wedding. It was the last time I saw Martha. We were always in touch for holidays and birthdays. I will miss that.
Martha was the smartest and prettiest girl in school. She gave the boys a run for the money scholastically. I was so proud of her.Â
She was the sweetest person I know. I know her presence will be sorely missed and that great smile of hers.Â
My heart grieves for her family and friends, of which I am sure she had many.
Until we meet again, I love you.
I didn’t know her personally but I know her son Steven Jones. He us an amazing man and I’m sure that was due to his mother. You raised him to be a good person and I imagine the people he blessed just by crossing his path is a trait he got from you. My prayers of comfort go out to all those who knew and loved you, especially your family.
I worked with Martha many years at Jordan Health Services, and had the utmost respect for her. I remember how proud she always was of her children and grandchildren and never failed to show photos of them all, with the biggest grin on her face. She was a one of a kind human being, and I will cherish the years I knew her. Sending love and prayers to the family.
I will never forget Martha Jones. She was a wonderful mother and servant of our Lord Jesus. She loved her children and raised them to know Christ as their Lord and Savior. Martha was so kind and thoughtful. I don’t remember seeing a frown on her face. She was such a happy person. Her children were definitely important to her. I didn’t get to know her grandchildren, but I’m sure they were the light of her life. My heart is so sad to know that her family will not have their mother and grandmother, but she is in the presence of Jesus. I pray that they will remember how blessed they were to have such a wonderful woman in their life. I also ask that our Father will send His precious blanket of comfort and peace that cannot be understood. Â
My mother showed her spirit and love through every selfless act she did, constantly putting others first. This spirit was a reflection of her strong will and dependence on Christ. She raised me to find the good in everything even as things were tough. It wasn’t the smoothest or easiest of lives, but she kept strong and stayed the course. It was rarely, if ever, about her, but solely about her kids and grandkids, and their happiness.
Her favorite hymn was The Old Rugged Cross. In this hymn, it says, “til my trophies at last I lay down, I will cling to the old rugged cross, and exchange it someday for a crown.†January 23, 2021 is the day she exchanged the cross for her crown.
I love you, mom. You’re so deserving of that crown and all that it means. I hope I can live up to the example that you set for me.
Martha was in our lives for a short time. I never saw her without a smile on her face. She accepted our daughter and loved her when she married Steven and my husband and I will be forever grateful that our daughter had such a wonderful mother in law. Her smile and laughter wil truly be missed. ~~ J.R and Cindy Rushing
