Mary Katherine Cook

Mary Katherine Swearingen-Cook of Crockett, passed away on Saturday, the 18th of November 2017 in Crockett at the age of 85. She was born on the 5th day of August 1932, in the community of Arbor to Lee and Maude Smith Swearingen. She was the youngest of seven children. Mary Katherine grew up and attended school in Arbor until the school incorporated with Crockett. She graduated from Crockett High School in 1951. She worked at Traylor's Dry Goods while in high school. It was at that store that Katherine met her husband, Doyle Roseman Cook. On their first date he took her to meet his parents at their home in Porter Springs and told his parents that he was going to marry Katherine. They were married at Norhill Baptist Church located in the Heights in 1953. After the death of her husband, Katherine retired from Houston I.S.D. and moved back to Crockett. Katherine worked along with her family at the Moosehead Café for 15 years. She was well known for her pies, fried chicken and chicken and dumplings. For the past year and 5 months, Katherine lived at Winfield where she touched the lives of many. Katherine gave love, kindness and encouragement to everyone she met. She loved her family and friends and was always talking to people about the Lord. She had a heart for the Lord and was a member of Central Baptist Church for many years. When her health began to decline, she attended services at Good Shepherd Fellowship Church with her daughter. Katherine will be missed but we know that she is where she can walk again and have a perfect and clear mind and will be waiting on her family and friends to join her in heaven.
Katherine is preceded in death by her husband, Doyle Cook; her parents, Lee and Maude Swearingen; sisters, Lillian Pomroy, Betty Rich, Jean Wilson; brother, Bob Swearingen. She is survived by her daughter, Joni Clonts of Crockett; sons, Daryl Cook and wife Sheila of Conroe, Kevin Cook of Conroe; grandchildren, Michael McCreight Jr. and wife Tami of Crockett, Katherine Smith-McCreight, Shawna McCreight-Franklin of Jackson, Lauren Foerster and husband Brandon of Spring, Alyssa Wilke and husband Dustin of Tomball, Jessa Thornbrough and husband Jacob of Conroe, Breann Cook of Dallas and Joshua Cook of Conroe; great grandchildren, Kade Almeida, Bryson Smith, Madilyn Smith all of Crockett, Rylee Foerster, Cameron Foerster of Spring, Paisley Wilke and Payton Wilke of Tomball and Branson Thornbrough of Conroe; sister-in-law, Lou Cook of Latexo. Also a host of nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly along with all of the friends and people she met through her wonderful and fruitful journey in life.
Funeral services for Mary Katherine Swearingen-Cook will be conducted at ten o'clock in the morning on Tuesday, the 21st day of November, 2017 at Good Shepherd Fellowship Church in Crockett with Otis Byers officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant Grove Cemetery in the Arbor community.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from six o'clock until 8 o'clock in the evening on Monday, the 20th day of November, 2017 at Good Shepherd Fellowship Church, 401 South 7th Street, Crockett, Texas.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are Michael McCreight Jr., Buddy Clonts, Brandon Foerster, Dustin Wilke, Jacob Thornbrough and Doug Stepanski.
Funeral services for Mary Katherine Swearingen-Cook are in care of Rhone Funeral Home, 3900 S. State Highway 19, Palestine, Texas.

Joni I was so sorry to hear Mrs Cook passed away. I had a lot of respect for Ms Cook, and I loved working with her for so many years. She was a precious friend and lady, she will truly be missed. My prayers are with you and your family!
Joni and Family…….. Heard about the passing of your Mother and wanted to express my sympathy. She was such a sweet lady and I so enjoyed seeing her when ever I visited for lunch. I know that all will treasure our memories of her.
