Ronald "Mark" Hill

May 13, 1964 ~ October 30, 2026

Ronald Mark Hill, age 62, of Palestine, Texas, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, the 30th day of October 2026, surrounded by his loving family, following a courageous 16-year battle with cancer. He was born on the 13th day of May 1964, in Palestine, Texas to parents William “Pete” Albert Hill and Lily Bay Gatewood. Known affectionately as Mark to his family and friends, he was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather.

Mark found joy in the simple things in life and treasured the time he spent doing what he loved most. He had a passion for cooking and especially enjoyed preparing meals for his family. Bringing everyone together around the table was one of the ways he showed his love. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and ranching, finding happiness in the outdoors and the life he loved.

Mark was a proud supporter of Cayuga sports and loved cheering on his teams. One of his greatest joys was watching his grandchildren play sports. Whether he was in the stands cheering them on or simply enjoying time spent with them, he was always proud of their accomplishments. Of all the roles he held in life, the one he treasured most was being a grandfather. His grandchildren brought him immeasurable joy.

Mark also dedicated many years of hard work to Jewett Mine, where he spent a significant part of his working life. His years of dedication and commitment were an important part of the life he built for himself and his family.

He is preceded in death by his parents Pete and Lily Hill; and brother Tom Hill.

Mark is survived by the love of his life Desiree Hill; daughter, Jaimie Lamb and husband DJ; son, Pete Hill and wife Charli; bonus children, Candy Willis and husband Rodney, Caylan Ortiz and husband Blake; sister, Diane Duncan; and his adoring grandchildren, Jordyn, Fenix, Wesley, Jude, Marli, Makenlee, Aiden, and Makayla. He also leaves behind many other family members and friends.

The family will receive friends during a visitation from five o’clock until seven o’clock in the evening on Monday, the 2nd day of November 2026, at Rhone Funeral Home.

Funeral services to celebrate Mark Hill’s life are to be conducted at two o’clock in the afternoon on Tuesday, the 3rd day of November 2026, in the Rhone Memorial Chapel with Bro Gary Bowman and Dan Manuel officiating the service. Interment will follow in Rock Church Cemetery.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Blake Ortiz, DJ Lamb, Pete Hill, Jude Ortiz, Wesley Hill, Fenix Lamb, and Clint Hill.  Honorary pallbearers include Jimmy Don Brooks, David Stovall, Herbert Davis, and Jewett Mine employees.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Cayuga Athletic Department, P.O. Box 427, Cayuga, Texas 75832 in honor of Mark’s love and support of Cayuga sports or Rock Church Cemetery, P.O. Box 106, Montalba, Texas 75853.

light a candleMark was a few year’s ahead of me on school. However, I had the pleasure of getting to know him through FFA. I had never raised livestock when I was assigned to Mr. Herb Davis’s FFA class. I was really having a hard time getting my first steer ready to show and I will never forget Mark taking the time to show me the way. My deepest condolences to you and all who loved him.
